Plaster can be used for covering over plasterboards, artex or backing coats eg. sand & cement, bonding and hard wall. You can use it on walls or ceilings to produce a smooth texture free finish ready to be decorated.
Plastering exterior walls is called rendering. It involves applying a pretty thin layer of a cement, sand & lime mix. Whilst these kinds of external finishes are generally applied when buildings are built, there might be situations when repairs have to be made or the old plaster is taken off and re-rendered. Render is applied in two coats; an undercoat named the float coat, and a thinner finishing coat.
Lime plastering is mostly based in the refurbishment of the older structures which of late there has been resurgence all over the UK. We ourselves as a company have also completed a lot of restoration work using the more traditional limeplaster to grade one and grade two listed buildings all over the UK.
This type of plaster is a traditional material for period properties and is frequently required by english heritage in there renovation.
Lime plaster has been in use for hundreds of years a long time ahead of the current and more up-to-date sand and cement and gypsum methods came into practice and used for the more modern buildings which are being built today.
Dry lining is the process by which sheets of plasterboard, fundamentally pre-made and dried plaster, is fitted to an unfinished surface. This can be things like brick, masonry, or whatever else that requires covering. The plasterboard can also be placed straight to wood or metal stud partitions. The plasterboard is fixed to the wall structure by nails, screws, or a drywall adhesive designed for this job. There is also the option to add a coating of insulation to the back of the dry lining to boost the thermal properties of your property. If you attach the dry lining to a stud partition then the insulation can be added and it fills cavity spaces to make the whole thing more solid and secure.
